This is part of a stained glass window at the Simpson Street 2 5 train station in the Bronx.

Beautiful Bronx

Just some snapshots from the car window of my commute. These pictures are interesting in their own way, but my goal is someday to walk around the Bronx to get some interesting architectural pics.

What We See Everyday

My three month hiatus has been filled by moving, and adjusting to a new job. I thought I would begin my new architectural adventures by posting a picture of New Yankee Stadium because now I see it everyday on my way to work. I had season tickets for two years in Old Yankee Stadium several years ago. I have been to two games so far at New Yankee Stadium. The amenities are nice, but the prices are not. A very positive thing about the design is that they lowered the walkways in the front, so there are not the terribly obstructed views that they had previously on the lower level.

I look forward to fighting traffic deep into October because that means they will be in the World Series. Let's Go Yanks!

Smokestack

I love when form and function are integrated successfully, but sometimes it's just great when form overrides funtion. I do really like tacky designs where architects and designers make functional objects look like something else. I'm sure there are a lot of examples of this on the internet. I have included some links below.

Here are my photographs of the smokestack at Yankee Stadium that looks like a huge baseball bat.

A water tower shaped like a bottle.

Check out the fish restaurant!

Tower as Peach.

To Celebrate...

the First Week of the 2007 Season

I love baseball, and I had season tickets to Yankees games for two seasons. This year I'm celebrating with a tinge of sadness because the prices for games have doubled since last year!! I think we should start a boycott. It's ridiculous, so I'm posting these pictures to remember...I will not be able to afford to go to any games this year. I am however going to a Seattle game this summer. Tickets that are 8 rows from the first base line at a Mariners game are cheaper than upper deck tickets at a Yankees game.

The first picture shows how you get caged in as you come from the subway.

I love the white "fencing" above center field at Yankee Stadium, so the second picture is a close-up of that with the third picture zoomed out to see the blimp as well.

The fourth and fifth pictures are of the exterior of the stadium around the home plate entrances.

I'm going to have to become a Mets fan, but after they build Citifield I probably will not be able to afford tickets there either...Oh well, Go Tigers!!
