Wrigley Field

Wrigley Field is quite unremarkable from the outside.

This is what is known about the outside of the field.

I sent a picture like this to my brother during the game and he replied, "Where's the ivy? That's not Wrigley Field."

Here's the ivy and the old-school scoreboard.

Crappy plastic seats, but they were cheap for row 10!

Old-school cub. The style of the bear looks old even if the font doesn't.

The Cubbies won too, which was fun.

Equal Love

I love baseball, and I love the prices and availability of Mets tickets. I do not love the team as much as my Tiggies, and Yanks, but I love baseball enough to be an equal opportunity attender.

I love the exterior of CitiField because it has the Camden Yard look (read: classic brick elements,) but there is something I miss about Shea. However, the first time I went to CitiField I sat in left field and could not see half of the outfield. Isn't calculating site lines an important part of being an architect in a venue such as this? I would think so, and whoever was in charge of that here dropped the routine fly ball. I had only ever sat in the good seats at Shea, and I have never sat in the same area of any other ball park either, so maybe I shouldn't long for an ugly blue and orange corrugated iron building.

What We See Everyday

My three month hiatus has been filled by moving, and adjusting to a new job. I thought I would begin my new architectural adventures by posting a picture of New Yankee Stadium because now I see it everyday on my way to work. I had season tickets for two years in Old Yankee Stadium several years ago. I have been to two games so far at New Yankee Stadium. The amenities are nice, but the prices are not. A very positive thing about the design is that they lowered the walkways in the front, so there are not the terribly obstructed views that they had previously on the lower level.

I look forward to fighting traffic deep into October because that means they will be in the World Series. Let's Go Yanks!

Baseball Withdrawal

Shea is not the most beautiful stadium, but the big chunky concrete walkways and steal i-beam supports have a repetitive appeal.

This is the view of a sunset over Manhattan from Shea Stadium, which will no longer be...

Zig-Zag

It has taken me so long to update this blog because I really liked the pictures from the last post. I didn't want to change it. I know the park was opened in 2001, but this looks like an overhang at my local highschool from the 70's.

I didn't even get to see the Cyclones play because the game was fogged out. I guess I'll have to go back next season.

Safeco Field

I would have to say this is my third favorite baseball stadium. Behind Miller Park, and Comerica Park, but I think I'm biased a little bit. This is a really nice park.

Baseball Themed Decor

Does anyone have a baseball bat chandelier as part of their decor? Safeco Field does.

R. F. K. Stadium

R.F.K. Stadium in Washington DC is actually the ugliest baseball stadium I have been too so far. It will only be in use for a couple more years, which is an aesthetically good thing. Parking there and driving out of there was very easy, which is a nice change from most stadiums.

The ball game was a good one though!

Citizen's Bank Park

The Phillies won when I was there, which according to fans and area residents is a long shot this year. Here are a couple of pictures of the stadium.

It is remarkable how different the stadiums and their surrounding areas look.

To Celebrate...

the First Week of the 2007 Season

I love baseball, and I had season tickets to Yankees games for two seasons. This year I'm celebrating with a tinge of sadness because the prices for games have doubled since last year!! I think we should start a boycott. It's ridiculous, so I'm posting these pictures to remember...I will not be able to afford to go to any games this year. I am however going to a Seattle game this summer. Tickets that are 8 rows from the first base line at a Mariners game are cheaper than upper deck tickets at a Yankees game.

The first picture shows how you get caged in as you come from the subway.

I love the white "fencing" above center field at Yankee Stadium, so the second picture is a close-up of that with the third picture zoomed out to see the blimp as well.

The fourth and fifth pictures are of the exterior of the stadium around the home plate entrances.

I'm going to have to become a Mets fan, but after they build Citifield I probably will not be able to afford tickets there either...Oh well, Go Tigers!!
