Simpson Street Stained Glass

This is part of a stained glass window at the Simpson Street 2 5 train station in the Bronx.

Library of Congress

Who would be interested in going to a place with the name, Library of Congress? I wasn't interested, but I got roped into it. Now I want to go spend some time researching there. It is a beautiful building. There are so many interesting resources and artifacts here, as well as books of course.

Regensburg Cathedral Interior

It's a nice church with wonderful stained glass windows. It is not really distinct on the inside in any way. It could be one of many other Gothic Cathedrals. I think I liked it a lot because it was in Bavaria and it was not Baroque.



I believe this is St. Peter in the back of the Cathedral contemplating Christ on the Cross. This is the first thing one sees when walking in.

Wedding Central

There were a couple of weddings the day we were here, so we didn't go in, but it was pretty with the flowers and windows outside. You can see flowers on at least two cars on the right.

Where East Meets West

Hungary has always been an area that has been fought over by eastern and western powers. You can see it in the eclecticism of the architecture around the city of Budapest, and Esztergom for that matter (which will be represented in a future post.) I think Mátyás Templom (Mathias Church) is a prime example of the eastern and western influences. On the tour I learned that the patron saint of this church is Mary, so the proper name isn't Mátyás Templom, but the Church of Our Lady. This is a fact many tourists and residents do not know because it's so well known by its secular name.

The altar looks very Byzantine.


The wall paintings have a very eastern feel to them, but there are pictures of people and saints, which is more western.




The stained glass windows are very western looking. I only took a picture of this section because I really like the seals (as you can see from the blurry picture below.)
